Elijah is boycotting naps. He’s actually boycotting being more than 6 inches away from me at all times. But that’s for a completely different post. I had planned on making an elaborate Disney World Countdown for the tiny humans. One of those fancy paper chains or a calendar with Mickey ears in each spot…I found so many great ideas on pinterest. But, since he wanted to help, I made this super quick and easy one with our cricut.
Want to make your own? Here’s what you’ll need:
-paper. I used one 12×12 sheet each of red, yellow, black, and white cardstock. You could easily do it with just one background sheet and one other color.
-adhesive. I used my Scotch Tape Runner, but any glue would work. Elijah would have had an easier time with a glue stick, but I couldn’t find ours.
-8×10 frame. I used one that I have yet to hang on our wall gallery.
-dry erase marker. NOT a sharpie, definitely don’t use a sharpie. Although dry erase marker over the sharpie is a pretty effective way to get sharpie off glass…
I made the “Disney” and the Mickey head 3.5 inches and the “days til” 2 inches. If I was doing it over I would make them each maybe .5 inch smaller, but a 4 year old’s attention span is short and he was getting antsy for the finished product.
Good tasks for a 4 year old helper are: peeling the letters off the cricut mat, putting the letters in order, and pressing the letters and Mickey head onto the paper. I also made it quasi-educational by asking him to get me each letter.
I love it.
Elijah was pretty psyched about it as well. Just look at that “DISNEY WORLD!” face.
It looks perfect in my yellow kitchen right next to the stove so I can dream about our trip while I cook dinner. Or while I boil water to drink tea, because that happens more often than actual dinner-making.
Don’t have a cricut? You could easily download a Disney font (searching “free Disney fonts” on pinterest gives excellent results) and print one right from your computer! Then just cut it to 8×10 and stick it in a frame. So easy!
Do you have any great ways you countdown the days until a Disney trip? I’d love to hear about them in the comments.
