I’m not the type of mama who works out on a schedule. Yes, I’m active but I’m not that girl who is disciplined enough to do a 30 minute workout video every day or has the opportunity to go on solo runs 3 times a week. I mean, I guess I could wake up before my children and husband and go on a run each morning, but I just really love sleep.
If you’re like me, and have a hard time sticking to a fitness schedule, here are some ideas of how you can stay fit without having a strict work out regime:
Take walks with your kids. I love taking walks around the neighborhood with my kids. I enjoyed it more than they did, until the whole PokemonGo thing. Our new neighborhood is so much nicer than our old one. So I don’t really worry about crazy teenagers hitting us even though there isn’t a side walk. And we could always use more fresh air.
Go for a jog. Whenever I have the opportunity to take just one child with me, I’ll go for a jog. Even if I had a double jogging stroller, I don’t know if I’d be up for pushing around 70 lbs of tiny human. 35 lbs of toddler is a hard enough workout for me! I love the Couch to 5K app whenever I’m feeling like I need to get back on track. Interval training is easier to do with a toddler in tow because when she’s yelling for snacks or drops her cup, you can stop and walk for a bit.
Have a dance party. We have daily dance parties, not only is it a great way for tiny humans to burn some of their energy, but it instantly lifts my mood. I like to turn on a little Taylor Swift while I cook dinner, or if Eli gets to pick, we jump around to the All Power Rangers Mega Mix. If you really want to burn some calories, play Just Dance with them. That game is intense and so hard!
Take a swim. When we’re at my in-laws in the summer, I love to swim laps in their pool. Now that my kids are bigger and better in the water, they don’t need to be held constantly. So that makes it easier for me to swim some laps while they’re playing with daddy or grandma.
Do a little yoga. I haven’t attended a yoga class in a couple years, but I still enjoy doing a little yoga throughout the week. I find it calming and Emmy loves to do a her version of downward dog and tree with me. Plus, Eli loves to push me over when I’m balancing, making it a little more challenging.
Make it a girls night and head to a CycleBar Ride! Part exercise class, part rock concert and CycleBar offers an exhilarating, high-energy, intoxicating multi-sensory, workout experience, complete with mind-blowing playlists and interactive rides designed for people of all fitness and experience levels—even those mamas who don’t regularly workout. Doesn’t that sound like a fun way to spend time with your girlfriends? And then, you could always head out for some drinks and apps after, since you did just burn all of those calories at the CycleBar Ride.
I was selected as a CycleBar brand ambassador and am getting the opportunity to experience their new facility free of charge in exchange for this post. As always, any thoughts and options expressed on a monkey and his mama are 100% my own. #CycleBarTroy
