Elijah is currently the saddest 4 year old in the history of sad 4 year olds. He had daddy to play with all day for 8 whole days and having him go back to work today is really rough on him. He actually said to me “I just want to cozy on the couch and be a little sad today.”
My heart is breaking for him. So hopefully some Rescue Bots and cold apple juice and some mama cuddles will cheer my monkey up.
We spent last week up in Bellaire, Michigan with my parents. We stayed in a cute little rental cottage right on the water and I wish we could stay all summer. One of the best parts about living in Michigan is all of the lakes. I love that my kids are growing up in the most beautiful state.
Our week consisted of beaches and sand and playgrounds and tasty food and sunshine and boating and lots of noni and papi time.
We arrived Monday afternoon and the tiny humans went straight for the beach. Emmy’s dress was drenched immediately and I didn’t even have time to get them into swimsuits.
I’m surprised they still wanted to hold hands after the disastrous car ride up. I seriously want a minivan with a TV and headphones…
Our first full day we drove into Traverse City. We found a beautiful park on the beach. We would’ve stayed and played longer if it weren’t so windy.
We had a tasty lunch and some ice cream and browsed a few of the shops. We forgot the stroller, and Emmy wanted to be cozy on her papi using his jacket as a blanket.
It was straight to the beach when we arrived back at the cottage. And notice Emaline in her diaper, again. I feel like she spent half the time wearing only a diaper.
We had a bonfire by the lake with s’mores. Elijah only wanted to eat plain marshmallows and Emaline ate all of the parts of a s’more, just not the actual s’more. What’s wrong with my children?
My parents rented a pontoon boat for a couple days. It was so fun. The kids fished with my dad, drove the boat, and ate snacks. Emaline found a new fascination with worms. Mama got to sun bath a little bit. Noni blew up the Dory floaty which both kids insisted was theirs. Oh, and how perfect is my Papermoon Kimono as a cover up?
My parents took the kids for ice cream and to another park while RJ and I snuck away for a date night in Traverse City.
More boating the next day, along with some naps on the pontoon. I guess the 11:30 bedtimes really caught up with them!
My mom spoiled us with home cooked breakfast each day. Emaline made sure her baby always got her own plate.
Friday was the coldest and windiest day. We headed to Elk Rapids for a tasty pizza lunch and then some exploring.
I’m pretty sure Eli and Emmy would’ve been perfectly content hitting up playgrounds every single day. Plus, playgrounds on the beach are kind of like a toddler’s dream, right?
We had the best time and made so many great memories.
Do you have a family vacation planned this summer? Do your kids love the water too? Let me know in the comments!
