UPDATE: The LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan will be open to the public on Friday, March 25. For information about tickets, visit the official LDC Michigan Facebook.
Yesterday, we were lucky to attend the unveiling of the GMRENCEN MINILAND model at the NAIAS at Cobo Center. The GMRENCEN is the first of 10 MINILAND models that will be on display at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan when it opens this spring.
The GMRENCEN Lego brick model measures about 6 feet wide and 6 feet tall. The iconic building was voted as the Metro Detroit area’s favorite landmark and will be on display permanently at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan.
Elijah was full of excitement for the unveiling, even though he looks less than thrilled in the above photo. He was even chanting “Lego! Lego! Lego!” while we waited.
And he had to take his own pictures on his daddy’s iPhone.
The shiny metal window pieces were the perfect touch for the GMRENCEN replica.
Eli found “so many minfig guys” in the atrium and he thinks that there are many more mini figures inside the towers, we just can’t see them.
If you haven’t made it to the auto show yet, make sure you check it out. You can find the GMRENCEN Lego model in Hall D, which is towards the left end of Cobo Center.
On the way back to our car, Elijah recognized the actual GMRENCEN building, and the “big circle towers with the little circle towers.”
We can’t wait to see the rest of the MINILAND display at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan. It will include 9 other beloved Metro Detroit landmarks, in addition to the GMRENCEN: Spirit of Detroit, Belle Isle, Motown Museum, Fox Theater, Guardian Building, Comerica Park, Uniroyal Tire, Michigan Central Station and the Heidelberg Project.
The LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan will be a 32,000 square foot indoor attraction featuring millions of Lego bricks and themed exhibits including a 4-D Cinema, two interactive rides, large soft play areas, and more! I will keep up to date with pre-opening events, or you can visit LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan on Facebook for more information.
I am a LEGOLAND Discovery Center Brand Supporter, and am receiving tickets in exchange for sharing and promoting events. But as always, any thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
