One of the hardest parts about selling our house was leaving Eli and Emmy’s rooms. I had dreamt and brainstormed and spent hours and hours on Pinterest to get ideas for their perfect rooms. I think their rooms were the perfect amount of disney charm. Elijah’s Peter Pan nursery was something I had thought about basically since we got married. His nursery was more gender neutral, so when we found out that Emaline was a girl, I knew this nursery had to be for a girl.
Emmy’s room was especially hard to leave because she had only used it for a few months. And it was the perfect Disney Princess room, without being overly Disney Princess-y. I tried hard to make it whimsical and girlie but not too “baby”-ish. I followed some of the tips my friend Jennifer shared last summer in a guest post (check it out here).
I snapped some pictures of her room, with my iPhone, before we started packing everything up. If you are interested in where everything is from, see the end of the post for details.
So here it is, my baby girl’s (first) nursery:
My favorite color is purple, so I went with the color scheme of Radiant Orchid, a nice bright orange, and gray. Emaline’s room used to be our office, so we left the walls gray, and painted the ceiling a lighter purple.
I got the idea to paint the ceiling a fun color from one of my favorite blogs, Young House Love. The super girlie chandelier is from ikea, and we will definitely be buying another when we aren’t homeless any longer.
The curtains were the first major purchase I made for the room. And they took me the longest to find. I had a very specific idea in my head, so when I came across these, it was magical. The bird fillials add such whimsy, and are very cinderella-esque. After I had the curtains, I picked the dresser color.
This dresser was the dresser I used growing up. It used to be a creamy color, but my dad repainted it. Didn’t it turn out fantastic? I have always thought changing tables were a waste. So we stuck a changing pad up there on the dresser. Her Radiant Orchid Freshly Picked moccs just happen to match her nursery perfectly…that may or may not have been the deciding factor when I purchased that color
I am a big fan of shelves and little knick knacks and using things we already have for decor. The orange canvas I made when I was pregnant with Eli, for his nursery. The crystal vase was a wedding gift, and the crystal bowl, that I keep her pacis in, was a Christmas gift from RJ’s grandparents a few years ago. RJ found that glass rose on eBay. We tried to incorporate little things from my favorite princess movies throughout the space.
RJ made this Tangled lantern. He free handed the sun onto the shade and then painted it. The print was a gift from Emmy’s auntie Moll.
I knew I wanted princess silhouettes when I decided on the princess theme. I told RJ my vision, and he made it happen. My aunt made the amazing quilt as a gift for Emaline, and the ikea chair is another item we recycled from Elijah’s nursery.
My parent’s found the mirror at an antique show and my dad repainted it. Isn’t it dreamy? I had plans to put hooks on either side for dress up clothes, an idea my friend Megan had, but never found the perfect hooks…so in her new room I am definitely going to do that.
Writing this post has made me feel both incredibly sad and incredibly excited. I miss our house. But I am excited to get a new space to make perfect for my (not so baby) baby girl.
(Sorry about the crappy iPhone pictures…I took these before nap one day and was in a hurry. You get the idea though.)
